Paul Gleeson
Paul Gleeson is a molecular cell biologist with long term research interests in the molecular mechanisms of intracellular membrane transport and the molecular basis of organ-specific autoimmune diseases. Paul established an independent laboratory in the Department of Immunology at Monash University in 1986 and in 2001 moved to the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Melbourne where he was Head of the Department for 10 years from 2006-2016. His research is currently primarily focused on the role of membrane tethers in the structure/function of the Golgi apparatus and the intracellular trafficking pathways of membrane cargo in a range of primary cells. He has been a visiting scientist at the EMBL, Heidelberg and the Institut Curie, Paris. He was a previous Convenor of the Hunter Cellular Biology Meeting (2009) and is currently Chair of the Fellowships Committee for FAOBMB. He has received ongoing funding from both NHMRC and the ARC for the past 30 years and has published >175 articles/reviews.
