Fabian Bumbak The 45th Lorne Conference on Protein Structure and Function 2020

Fabian Bumbak

Fabian Bumbak uses NMR spectroscopy as the primary tool to study the dynamics of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) activation. He studied Biotechnology (BSc) at the University of Applied Sciences in Zurich, Switzerland (2005 – 2008) and Biochemistry (MSc) at the University of Zurich (2008 – 2012). His Master’s Thesis “Solution Structure of a C-terminal Fragment of a Designed Split Armadillo Repeat Protein” was completed under the supervision of Prof. Oliver Zerbe. Fabian prepared his PhD thesis “Characterising the conformational diversity of the neurotensin receptor 1" under the co-supervision of Dr. Daniel Scott, Prof. Paul Gooley and Prof. Ross Bathgate at the University of Melbourne where he received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology in April 2017. After a short stint (04/2017 – 01/2018) as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Receptor Structure and Drug Discovery Laboratory with Dan Scott at The Florey Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health he moved to Bloomington Indiana where he is continuing his postdoctoral training with Prof. Joshua Ziarek at Indiana University. Fabian is a founding member of marinecultures.org – a NGO dedicated to marine conservation and improving livelihoods in coastal Zanzibar.
